Sharing Our Favorite Games

While it's not necessary to play games in order to make games, many devs at one point or another have popped a game into their console, played it and thought 'holy crap, I want to make something just like that one day'.

There have been a handful of games I've played in my life that made me feel like that...but I was curious about the rest of the team's answers! So naturally...I had to ask what their favorite game was :p

Marc (Creative Director)

Half-Life 2

"This is the game that made me want to create games. The storytelling , the narrative and game mechanics are just brilliant! All in all it's just a great game - it's rare to hear anyone say a bad word about it."

Mike (Level Designer)

EVE: Online

"That's a really tough question-- there's a lot of top contenders like Fallout 4, The Division, or Divinity: Original Sin 2 that really pulled me in in different ways, be it world building, gameplay, or story-telling, respectively. There is one that comes out ahead though and that is EVE Online. Deep, complicated systems set against the backdrop of a vast, political landscape and given over 100% to the player base to play exactly how they want to play. I've sunk years into that game and am only now recovered enough to talk about it without being pulled back in and losing any hope of being productive"

Alex (Unreal Programmer)

Bloodborne

"For me it's definitely Bloodborne. Tightly paced combat and amazing level design with Lovecraftian victoria-era horror. Its weapon design is really unique and I love how you piece together what's happening through item descriptions (although that's in pretty much all FROM software games)"

Melissa (Community Manager + Producer)

Final Fantasy X

"Picking a favorite game is really difficult...I love the characters in Uncharted and Days Gone like family and I never get sick of the thrill in Rise of the Tomb Raider. But the game that I always find myself coming back to is Final Fantasy X. Games have changed a lot since but no game has ever made me feel the way I feel about Yuna and Tidas' journey. The story was really smart, the characters were lovable and complicated and the twist at the end still breaks my heart to this day. In short - amazing game."

. . .
